When will Service Credit Union early deposit my pay?Service Credit Union is a large credit union based in New Hampshire.  It has 14 branches on U.S. military bases in Germany and has many customers who enjoy having a local branch bank at their overseas location.

As a courtesy to its military customers, Service Credit Union offers to credit military pay two business days prior to the actual military payday.  This offer requires that the service member have the entire net pay deposited into a Service Credit Union account.  Allotments do not fulfill this requirement.

The exact language, from their webpage, says this:

"Must maintain direct deposit of entire net pay (NOT ALLOTMENT) into a Service Credit Union checking account to qualify. Immediate credit of your direct deposit to your Service Credit Union checking account up to two (2) days early is based upon when we receive your payroll from your employer. Service Credit Union cannot assume any liability for not depositing these funds to your account early."

It is important to note that Service Credit Union does not guarantee that pay deposits will be made early.  In fact, they specify that the offer is dependent on the receipt of pay information from the employer.  In the case of active duty military, pay is handled by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS.)  While DFAS typically provides deposit information several days prior to payday, things can (and do) happen to delay the transfer of information.

While the early direct deposit is a nice bonus, the lack of guarantee means that you can't plan based upon an early pay date.  There's nothing wrong with that, as long as you know.  You definitely don't want to be standing in line at the commissary with a cart full of groceries, hitting refresh on your bank app, and waiting for your pay to be credited.  (Yes, I've seen this.)

Service Credit Union sometimes deposits Monday pay on the Saturday prior.  While that is great when it happens, it can sometimes result in a long period of time until the next payday.
